As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the adventures undertaken on a local and global scale, our own history, and some of the great achievements completed by you!

Achievements on the world stage

We’ve seen some world-firsts accomplished this year, and were beyond proud to be alongside you in the cockpit to join you on some amazing adventures.

Some highlights include Lola Odujinrin becoming the first African to fly around the World, the history-making C150 Global Odyssey (aka C150GO) marking the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, and the mammoth journey undertaken by the Silver Spitfire.

12 years in the air (and counting!)

We also reached our own milestone. Spidertracks CEO Dave Backwell reflected on Spidertracks’ 12 year anniversary in February. He speaks about how we came about, our mission, what’s on the horizon for the next 12 years, and beyond.

Consistent product improvement

Our development team have been working harder than ever over the last 12-months to deliver some exciting new platform features including Virtual FDR™, new weather overlays, a refreshed interface, and much more. But that’s just the beginning. Next year we’ve got tons of exciting product news to share with you, so stay tuned.

We’ve travelled the globe!

We’ve been privileged to meet and speak to many of you dotted around the continents throughout this year, have enjoyed some great conversations, and loved hearing your stories from the skies.

We’ve heard about trips taken in Virunga National Park, located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, all the way out to South Africa’s East Coast, and all the miles travelled right across Alaska!

It’s also been great meeting you in person, and putting faces to names. We’ve attended many events this year in both hemispheres, including the Singapore Airshow, Air Africa, Aviation NZ (AIA) Conference in New Zealand, HAC’s annual convention and safety forum, and most recently, the Vertical Flight Expo in Farnborough, UK. We’re looking forward to starting the new year off at HAI Heli Expo 2020, and hope to see you there!

While we talk about safety and care for the industry, it’s also important to talk about self-care.

We had members of our team grow a mo for the bro, as part of Movember, a charity dedicated to changing the face of men’s health. We raised $1,800 towards the cause!

Our team in New Zealand also participated in a walking challenge during November, where they attempted to ‘virtually’ walk the length of the country in teams of six (that’s around 7,000 steps per day!). Although we didn’t quite make it back to Auckland, it was a great way to change our daily commute and routine habits; getting off at an earlier bus stop, walking instead of driving, and of course, getting outdoors and soaking in some Vitamin D and fresh air.

Continue flying safe and stay connected

As we head into the holiday season, no matter the weather, we hope you stay safe in the skies.

With the upgrade to Iridium’s network this year, we’re with you the whole way, from take-off to landing. This upgrade also helps us to continue fulfilling our mission; making the aviation community a safer place to live and operate in.

We hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!
